Anoles, Quails, and Maybe Cattails

The Online Feather Collection

In the USA, we have what is called the MBTA, or the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. This law makes it difficult for regular people to collect bird skulls, taxidermy, or feathers from native species or species otherwise on the list. This act was made to protect birds from overharvesting. This page will be a way both for me to keep an online collection of the feathers, and to share what I find. I may also include a section for eggshells I find later on.

How I Identify These Feathers

Many of these feathers have been IDed with the help of my fellow iNaturalist users. I might just try IDing them to the best of my ability if the feathers belong to species I am more familiar with, however. Please keep in mind that I am not a professional at IDing feathers, and am identifying them to the best of my and my fellow naturalist's ability. Any of the photos you see on this site that are also on iNat belong to me, and were submitted to iNat via my own profile. As of now, I only have plans to show images of feathers I find.
